Most homes in Elk City have some age on them. About seven in ten were built before 2000, and the typical house dates to around 1980, by Census estimates. A house that age may have a dark, dated kitchen. Its bathroom may have a tub with a tall edge you have to step over.
Mulberry Creek Construction is based in Woodward, and Elk City is part of our service area. If you need a remodeling contractor in Elk City, we take on kitchen remodeling and bathroom remodeling. One contractor handles every trade on the job, so you have one point of contact. Call or text (580) 216-9022 for a free estimate.

Deep gas drilling around Elk City set off an oil boom in the 1970s. The boom went bust in the early 1980s, but the houses built in those years still stand. Census figures show about a third of today's homes were built in the 1970s and 1980s. At least one in five was built before 1960.
In a house from the 1960s or 1970s, the wiring and the drain lines may not fit a new layout. We check both when we look at the room. If you want to open a wall to make the kitchen bigger, we also check whether it carries weight. When it does, an engineer plans the change before the wall comes out.
About two thirds of Elk City's homes are detached houses, and about one in six went up in the 2010s. Newer or older, every remodel starts the same way. We talk about what you want to change and look at the room. Then you get a written estimate before any work starts.
The City of Elk City has a Permits and Inspections department at City Hall on West 3rd Street. It issues building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits. City inspectors check the work at stages of construction.
The city's permit page says it works under the 2018 ICC codes and the 2020 National Electrical Code. Its fee schedule lists a remodeling permit, and that fee is based on the dollar value of the work.
The office answers which permits your remodel needs, and we point you there before the job begins. City Hall also takes questions about new water service connections. Elk City's water comes from city wells in sand and gravel deposits along the North Fork of the Red River.
The Census puts about 18 percent of Elk City residents at 65 or older. More than one in eight lives with a disability. A narrow doorway or a tall tub edge can make a home harder to live in.
Our accessibility remodeling work covers wider doorways, grab bars set into blocking, walk-in tubs and low-threshold showers. In a kitchen, we can lower a counter and move storage within reach.
These changes are easier to plan before they are urgent. Blocking for a grab bar goes in easily while a bathroom remodel has the walls open. A walk-in tub needs a check of the plumbing and the power first.
In Elk City, Route 66 runs along West 3rd Street, past Ackley Park and the Elk City Museum Complex. The city calls Elk City the retail shopping center for western Oklahoma, with a trade area of nearly 80,000 shoppers.
Shops and offices need upkeep in a town like that. Rentals do too: the Census counts more than a third of Elk City's occupied homes as rented. Our commercial remodeling work covers tenant improvements and facilities maintenance for businesses. For landlords, we turn rental homes around between tenants with new flooring and paint.
The Census also counts about one in five Elk City housing units as vacant. Before an empty house can rent or sell, it may need repairs inside.
