What does walk-in tub installation involve?
The job starts with the old tub. We take it out and open the wall around it so the new tub can sit against the studs. If the floor under the old tub is soft, we repair it before the new tub goes in.
A walk-in tub sits taller than a standard tub, so the water lines may need to move up. The drain may move too, so it lines up with the new tub. Tubs with jets or a heater need power. Installation guides put each powered part on its own circuit with ground-fault (GFCI) protection.
Then the tub goes in, set level front to back and side to side. The door seal depends on that. Before the walls are finished, we fill the tub with the door latched and check every fitting for leaks. Tile or a wall surround goes above the tub, and any pump stays reachable behind a removable panel.
What to check in your bathroom before you choose a walk-in tub
Start with the path into the room. The tub has to fit through the hall and the bathroom door on its way in. Then pick the door side. Walk-in tubs come in left-hand and right-hand versions, so choose the side that makes getting in and out easy.
Think about where you will hold on as you step in and sit down. We add wood blocking in the wall before the tub goes in. Each grab bar then anchors into solid wood.
Two checks sit outside the bathroom. A deep tub takes a lot of hot water, so the water heater has to keep up. A tub with jets also needs open space in the electrical panel for its circuits. We look at both when we see the room.
How a walk-in tub install runs in Woodward and northwest Oklahoma
Each job starts with a conversation and a look at the bathroom. Before we meet, jot down what frustrates you about the room each day. Then we write up your free estimate, and you deal with one contractor through the whole job. Plan on another place to bathe until the new tub is ready.
Our service area takes in towns such as Alva, Enid, Weatherford and Elk City, plus the Oklahoma City metro. See the towns we serve for the full list. About half the homes in Woodward were built in 1975 or earlier, by U.S. Census Bureau figures. In a house that age, the pipes and the electrical panel may need work before a walk-in tub goes in.
