Weatherford is a college town on Interstate 40, home to Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Census estimates date the median home here to 1983, so half the homes are more than 40 years old. More than half of the occupied homes are rentals. Many owners live with a dated kitchen or bath, and landlords need units ready before the next tenant moves in.
Mulberry Creek Construction is a remodeling contractor based in Woodward, and Weatherford is part of our service area. We do kitchen remodeling and bathroom remodeling here, along with accessibility changes and rental work. We handle every trade on the job and coordinate the whole project, so you have one point of contact. Call or text (580) 216-9022 for a free estimate.

Weatherford more than doubled between 1960 and 1980, from 4,499 people to 9,640. The university reached record enrollment in those years. An oil boom brought new workers in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Census estimates show more than two in five homes in town were built in the 1970s or 1980s.
If a kitchen in one of those homes feels closed in, we can open a wall to make it bigger. When that wall is load bearing, an engineer is called before it comes out. Some kitchens need a tear-out to the studs, then a new layout, cabinets, counters, tile and lighting.
About one home in eight in town went up before 1960, and about three in ten in 2000 or later. In an older house, opening a wall can show plumbing or wiring that needs work. If that happens, we show you what we found and how it changes the plan.
Census figures show more than half of Weatherford's occupied homes are rentals, against about a third statewide. About 37 percent of the homes in town sit in buildings with two or more units. The median resident is about 25 years old.
When a lease ends, a landlord often has a short window to get the unit ready. We handle rental turnovers for landlords, with paint, flooring, fixtures and repairs under one contractor. A dated kitchen or bath can be remodeled in the same turnover.
Downtown and Main Street, the old Route 66 path through town, hold shops and restaurants. For a business, we take on tenant improvements and facilities maintenance as well.
Weatherford skews young, but about 1,450 residents are 65 or older, per Census estimates. Across Custer County, about one resident in seven is 65 or older.
Many people want to stay in their own homes as they age. Accessibility remodeling can mean wider doorways, grab bars set into blocking, a low-threshold shower and lower kitchen counters. A walk-in tub can replace a standard tub with a high side to step over.
The easy time to add blocking for grab bars is during a remodel, while the walls are open. It helps to plan these changes before they turn urgent.
Weatherford is the largest city in Custer County, though the county seat is Arapaho. The town sits in the southeast part of the county, on State Highway 54 just north of Interstate 40.
Inside the city limits, the city's Inspection Department issues building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits. It inspects each phase of the work, alterations to an existing home included. Its monthly permit report has a line for residential remodels.
The city's permits page lists the model codes Weatherford has adopted, including the International Residential Code. Ask that office what your project needs before work starts. Planning and zoning meetings run through the same department. For a house outside the city limits, ask Custer County which rules apply.
