El Reno got its start with the Land Run of 1889. Its post office opened in June of that year. About 78 percent of the homes in town are detached houses, by Census estimates. In an older house, the kitchen can feel closed in and the tub can be hard to step into.
El Reno is part of our service area. Mulberry Creek Construction is based in Woodward, about 115 road miles away, a little over two hours by car. Here we take on kitchen remodeling, bath remodels and whole-home interior work. You deal with one point of contact, and we coordinate every trade on the job. El Reno is the county seat of Canadian County, due west of Oklahoma City. The town sits along Historic Route 66 and U.S. Highways 81 and 270. Interstate 40 crosses its far south side. The name came partly from Fort Reno, the nearby military post, the Oklahoma Historical Society notes.
The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway had division repair shops in El Reno by the 1950s. They ran until the railroad shut down in 1980. The historic Rock Island Depot is now part of a museum complex run by the Canadian County Historical Society.
Census estimates put El Reno at 6,867 housing units, and about 43 percent of the occupied homes are rentals. Between leases, home remodeling can replace worn floors, patch drywall and repaint the rooms before the next family moves in.
Some of El Reno's first buildings still stand. The Oklahoma Historical Society lists the 1892 El Reno Hotel and the 1909 Southern Hotel among them. The 1904 Carnegie Library and the 1911 El Reno High School are on that list too.
An older storefront or office often needs updates before a new tenant moves in. Commercial remodeling covers tenant improvements and small build-outs for businesses. Widening doorways for ADA access is part of the work we do for commercial property.
Walls in an old building may have been moved or patched many times. Before a wall comes out, we find out whether it carries weight from above. When it does, an engineer plans the support that replaces it.
The City of El Reno takes residential building permit applications. Its form lists a remodel as its own project type, along with fire restoration. It asks for the square footage of the improvements and the estimated value of the project.
Oklahoma's state building code commission adopted the 2024 International Residential Code, and it took effect on September 14, 2026. Your city's permit office decides which remodel work needs a permit, and it inspects that work.
Which permits a project needs depends on what changes, such as moving a drain or adding a circuit. The city's permit office answers that question, and we point you there before work starts.
An older kitchen is often small and cut off from the rest of the house. A full kitchen remodel can go down to the studs. Opening an interior wall can make the room bigger and brighter.
In an older bath, the tub is often the problem. Bathroom remodeling can bring new tile and a new vanity. With shower remodeling, the old tub can become a walk-in shower with grab bars.
Census estimates count 2,352 El Reno residents age 65 or older, about 13 percent of the town. Accessibility remodeling can widen a tight doorway and add rails where you need a steady hand. A walk-in tub may fit where the old tub sits now. Planning these changes before they are urgent leaves you more choices.
